We are on the cusp of February. How was your January? We have a few days left if there is anything you'd like to do to button up your month or end it with a bang! Tomorrow I get to attend a cooking demo at my local library. The cooking demos always fill up fast so I set a reminder earlier this month so I didn't forget to register the moment registration opened.

Later today the last post for the #SIAM will be posting it's the final book in the Night Rebel series Wicked All Night.  I enjoy participating in these #SIAM a trilogy of three books is really manageable for me!

What else am I talking about this week?  We will be starting February

and I have a non-fiction book to share-

Plus a 5 star book by Charlaine Harris

My goodness, my library holds are coming up fast! I just got the latest Charlaine Harris book and I've had that on hold for while! I am bumping up this book to the top of my TBR pile.  How about you? Do you plan your reading?  I try to map out a month at a time. If I don't then I find that I don't do a very good job of blogging!

Last week I was planning a post on the Ilona Andrews Innkeep Chronicles series, but it didn't happen. However, you will see it this week and I have all of next week's posts ready to go! Exciting!  This weekend I get to enjoy a 3 day weekend from working at the school and I am planning to finish and write up reviews for two books.

Back to Work Tomorrow: #TheSundayPost

Tomorrow I go back to work. I don't mind, it will be nice to see the kids and hear about their Winter Breaks. Since I am a support person, and only work 2.5 hours per day at the school, I really can't complain. It's the best part-time job. I only work when school is in session, I don't have to get up particularly early and I'm home by 1:10pm. Bonus: I can walk to work.

I got a Blue Apron delivery this past Thursday and that was a nice way to try a couple different meals during my break. How was your week?
This week I'll be posting about these books:

Hi! How are you? Happy New Year! I decided to try a new New Years' tradition for 2023. Have you ever heard of this?

I'm looking forward to a year of peace, joy, and happiness! I plan to do my best to keep up with reading and then writing about my read here. I have a plan for January--so I'm off to a good start.

If you are off work this upcoming week and are looking for things to watch. I highly recommend the Love, Lizzo documentary on HBOMAX.

Thanks for visiting my blog! This week I'll be sharing my thoughts on these books:

Happy November! Thanksgiving is Coming and I'm in Holiday Planning Mode #TheSundayPost

How was your first week of November?  I feel pretty good about mine. I ordered our Christmas photo cards from Walgreens. I ordered a few heat-and-serve side dishes from Boston Market for our Thanksgiving Feast, it's a family Tradition. I took down the Halloween decorations, left up all the general fall decorations, and added my Thanksgiving decorations. This year I finally got a blow-up turkey for our front yard, something I've been wanting to do for years but the price wasn't right until this year! I also ordered a couple of Thanksgiving-themed Snoopy shirts. Fun for me and fun to wear when I work at the school with kiddos. Plus I canvassed twice for my congressman, and we completed and dropped off our mail-in ballots.

I also sent my Tastefully Simple recipe newsletter  Here is a link to it if you'd like to check it out click here

What have you been up to? Do you happen to have any fun Christmas-themed reads you can recommend to me? Esp. if I can do an audiobook--

Today I'm finishing Cold Days another book in the Harry Dresden Files and I will have a review on either Monday or Tuesday. Then I'm diving into a Lucy Stone Thanksgiving-themed mystery!

Yesterday I got my flu shot and today my right arm hurts and I'm feeling fatigue. Adding to that is that Ragweed counts are high and the Claritin I take is just taking the edge off. My throat is so itchy the inside of my ears itch! Now this morning to top off what was looking to be not a great day, a yellow jacket stung me on my foot. Two days in a row I've been punctured. Now my foot itches and hurts. BOOOOO

I hope you are having a nice Labor Day Weekend. I don't feel great so I don't know what all I'll be posting about this week. I can share two books I was able to add to my NetGalley shelf--see below!

How is your weekend going? Do you have fun weekend plans?

One thing not many people know is that Chicago has the best Septembers. The weather is excellent.  Warm days, cool nights, and less humidity. It's a great time to live here--and September is almost here.  I am starting my second week working as a Lunch Supervisor for the local elementary school. It's a fast-paced 2.5 hours each school day with loads of sweet kiddos (it's all kindergarten and first-grade kids so they have lots and lots of energy and are learning the ropes of what it is to attend school.  Do you have any fond memories of kindergarten?

On the reading front, I am behind as per usual this year on my reviews. This week I plan to post about these books:

This week will be a bittersweet moment for me and the Hubs, our youngest is heading off to college on Wednesday. She's the first of our family to go away to college, so this is a new experience for us as well as her.  I'm very excited for her and I hope she has an easy transition to her new environment. How about you, any transitions happening at your home this month?

This is her first school picture back when she was 3.

It's just about August, And that means it's my birthday month! I've informed the family that we'll be going to the local farm to table and fun beverage place that is a block from our house for my dinner. I think I'm going to get a giant pretzel with cheese and an ice cold beer, then have a fancy salad and strawberry shortcake for dessert! What do you like to have as a birthday meal?

I've been doing a bunch of reading and listening lately so I need to  prepare more blog posts to talk about these books. For now:

Happy July! I hope you have been having a nice summer. I started back posting last week and this is the first time I've been able to rejoin The Sunday Post since mid May. Busy in a good way! Last weekend we had the graduation party for our college and high school grads and now we are helping our youngest get everything ready to head off to college next month.

Plus it's officially Leo season!  My birthday is coming soon.  I was thinking the other day that my 40s were pretty crummy and so I'm going to make an effort to have a better decade in my 50s  Of course it would help if the world would just be a nicer, more considerate place. My thought is to control what I can control.

How about you? How is 2022 going for you?

This week I'll be posting about some books I have recently read:

Happy Mother's Day to everyone who mom's in any sort of way.

Big Hugs to everyone who feels sad on this day.

Yesterday was another exciting event in a month of big stuff a-happening at our house. My oldest son graduated from College! Man what an achievement!  He went to a community college for two years and finished with an Associates Degree, and then he transferred to a local university and Saturday he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Graphic Design! Not only did he finish in 4 years but he managed to keep a 3.5 GPA or above the whole time and 'only' has $12 in student loans.

Next up....finding a job!  We really want our kids to have as good a start to their adulthood as possible so we are more than happy for him to live here for a while so he can pay off the student loans and save money.

How was your week? Did anything fun happen?

This week I am reviewing a Dresden Files book, The Moonstone Cove Trilogy by Elizabeth Hunter and The Coloring Crook by Krista Davis

The Sunday Post, And Now For Something Different

Once I week I usually participate in an online journaling group. This week we had a fun prompt and I liked my responses so I'm going to share it here:

The prompt was to imagine that the seasons are people, how would you describe them:

Spring has a plan and she has goals. She spent her lunch hour shopping online for a cute pair of sandals and a new dress--floral of course.  She's on a diet but she can't stick to it because life is just too full of good flavors. She's been at her job for 10 years now and she loves it, but she longs for something more.

Summer walks by and the scent of sunblock and a hint of chlorine follows in her wake. She has tickets for all the best outdoor concerts.  She is on her way to meet up with friends on a rooftop and her mouth waters at the thought of an ice-cold beer. Her curly hair is extra curly thanks to the humidity and she revels in it. She hardly puts effort into it but her container garden is flourishing.  All her friends know she is the one to ask what herbs go in what dish and it's her playlists they sync to the Bluetooth speaker.

Fall is in her 4s and she is cool with that. She loves a good sweater and her favorite boots were pricey but she's had them for 10 years now and they still look amazing. She works exactly as long as she paid to and not a minute more. her job is not her life. Her life is experiences. She is counting down the days to the big girls' trip she is taking to Scotland. Maybe she'll find a handsome lad in a kilt to take her on a tour of a castle or two.

Winter wears her grey hair in a short bob and stopped wearing makeup the day she retired from her last job. She doesn't smile much, but when she does her whole face lights up. She complains often about an ache in her bones when the temps dip below zero. But for those she lets into her home they only speak of the twinkle in her eyes, like sparks from a fire crackling making the whole house cozy during the long winter nights.

*****

How was your week? I hope you had a nice one!  This week I'll be sharing my thoughts on a Harry Dresden book, a book on apartment gardening, and Romancing Mister Bridgerton!

Happy Easter to those who celebrate!  Here is a flashback to an Easter when the kids were small. Now the big kids are enjoying our annual egg hunt. I fill the eggs with money so, it's a popular egg hunt.  I have it set up so they only get X amount of egg each so no one gets more money than anyone else. (it's $20 per kid)

Dinner is going to be my favorites: Ham, potato salad, asparagus, a veggie tray, and cookies for dessert! PLUS deviled eggs!  Yum!

This week was another week of up and down cooler than expected temperatures and little sunshine. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that changes this week!  The best of the past week for me was that I had my 6-month follow-up CT scan (the anxiety leading up to the actual test sucked in the extreme) and got the results in less than 24 hours everything was unremarkable --ie normal! WAHOO!!!

How was your week? And how do you feel about Peeps?

The Sunday Post! She found the dress!

Hi Everyone! Did you have a good week? I hope so! I finished reading some fun books, had a doctor's appointment in which the after-visit summary described me as pleasant, and my daughter found her prom dress.

fingers crossed that it arrives quickly and that we have time to get it altered should it need to be altered. The dress she tried on here was a size too big so maybe we'll get lucky and it won't need altering. She also agreed with me that it would be pointless to purchase heels to go with this dress as no one is going to see her feet and she might wind up putting a heel through some of this tulle!
The color is lovely, don't you think?

Brigerton, Harry Styles, and Prom #TheSundayPost

If you are reading this I might be out shopping with my daughter for her Prom dress. We were supposed to go a couple of weeks ago but then I had the not Covid cold. My daughter says she doesn't have a dress style or color in mind, so that could make this easier? or harder?  Remains to be seen! Wish us luck!  I will report back on what dress is found!

This week I read some good stuff that I am looking forward to talking about--a trilogy by Elizabeth Hunter for example and I watched Brigerton season 2. Have you seen it?  I quite enjoyed it.  I thought the lead couple Anthony and Kate Sharma nailed the Enemies to Lovers trope.  Lots of longing, and a big payoff. I enjoyed it so much that now I can't wait to see what happens next season with Benedict's story so I bought the paperback on Friday at Love's Sweet Arrow Bookstore.

Also since I live with one of Harry Styles' biggest fans, I made sure to listen to his latest single as soon as it was out this past week.  I quite enjoy it

How was your week?  Read, watch, or listen to anything you enjoyed?

#The Sunday Post Had a Cold Not Covid

I missed some blogging due to a cold. The cold wasn't bad but was stressful for me because I worry about any and all illness stuff. So I was like is it a cold? is it Covid? The rapid tests I took, said it was a cold.

This week I'm back to feeling better. While I was sick I watched:

*Bridgerton (season 1)

*The Last Kingdom--It was so good. I highly, highly recommend watching this series on Netflix since it is now 5 completed seasons, trust me! It's fantastic

*Severance on Apple+ This show is very good, it has a unique look that makes it more interesting to watch. This one is out on a weekly basis. We also watched Suspicion on Apple, that one is done being released, Tom liked it more than me.

MOVIES: Fresh, Windfall, and Deep Water. Deep Water is described as a romantic thriller. Let me tell you, it's not romantic at all and I would say it's 4 out of 10 on a thriller scale. Windfall takes place all on this gorgeous estate in Ojai, California.  I liked the movie score and the beauty of the estate. I didn't care very much about what happened to 3 of the 4 characters. Fresh is a horror movie. That one stuck with me the longest. So out of these three, I would say Fresh is the best story.

How was your week? Read or watch anything too?

Here is what I'll be talking about this week:

#TheSundayPost I Totally Forgot About The Time Change

The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. I think we should just stay an hour forward now and skip going back an hour in the fall. What do you think? I think I forgot it was time for the time change because this week it snowed twice and yesterday temperatures were in the teens (or about -7 Celcius) A real winter week for early March.

This weekend I watched Turning Red on Disney Plus and The Adam Project on Netflix.  Both movies were entertaining and cute, I recommend them for families or anyone that just wants a movie they can relax and enjoy, forget the cares of the day and all that.

I also went with my oldest child to the movie theater and we saw The Batman. I thought it was very good, Robert Pattinson was miserable and broody.  They made him look terrible, he was pale and beaten down, with bloodshot eyes.  I mean people loved him as a pretty vampire and in that respect he is unrecognizable. The chemistry of Catwoman and Batman is as strong as it was when Michelle Pfiefer and Micheal Keaton played the roles. My only complaint about the movies is that there is no need for it to be 2 hours and 57 minutes. They could have gotten it down to 2 hours.

What did you do for fun this week?

Books I am reviewing this week:

And another book TBD!
