The Absolute Joy of Sleeping in on a Monday Morning. The Sunday Post

I am very excited that I don't have to get up and go to work tomorrow. I have no plans and am hoping to stay in my pajamas all day. Maybe I'll hit the Starbucks drive thru and get my first PSL of the season. I also like that Labor Day is on September first this year.

I will be working on finishing my current audio read, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall. I need to not go to Goodreads when I am double-checking the spelling of a book title. I think the blurb for this book gives too much away, and now I feel a little spoiled.

Did I mention I set up a TikTok account? I think I did. But if you missed it, now you know.  It's an author account. I don't know what I am doing. Do use TikTok?

If you are looking for some ideas on what to do with yourself this month here is a fun guide I saw posted. This weekend I'll be at a book signing in Galena, IL. It's a super cute town that is a popular Midwest weekend destination. I'm going to try and make sure I take some pictures. What are some of your September plans?

Looking For Some Escapist Reading? Look No Further!

The Kiss Contract by Angela Taylor is a fun, fluffy book with cute dogs and just the right amount of comedy in the love story. It's a nice Rom Com. If you like it, there are more books in the same universe! One of the things I like about these books is that each book features different tropes. I'm a big fan of fake relationships, and that is the first thing that drew me to The Kiss Contract.

Here is more info about the book!

When you sign a contract to fake-date your sister’s best friend, things are bound to get
complicated!

 THE KISS CONTRACT

Pet photographer Jessa Lockwood has a problem, and his name is “Creepy Bruce.” After one misguided
internet date, the guy turns into a stage-five clinger. Getting rid of him is harder than keeping dog hair
off her clothes. So, what’s a girl to do when she runs into him on the street? Kiss the first guy she sees
and pretend he’s her boyfriend, that’s what. Great idea, right?

Double-decker, she’s so screwed, abso-flipping-lutely wrong!

There isn’t enough ice cream in the world to melt away that bad decision. Especially when the guy she
locks lips with turns out to be her best friend’s sexy-as-sin, loves-to-push-her-buttons brother, Chase.
Still, she can fix it. Once she gets rid of the creepster, she’ll go home, lock herself in her bedroom, and
never come out again. After all, what’s food delivery for, if not to provide sustenance to the terminally
mortified

Chase Maysen just won the lottery in the form of a dimpled blonde he’s had a crush on for years. Jessa’s
always been off limits, but when her mom witnesses their kiss and invites him to an overnight family
gathering, he accepts before Jessa can say no. She’s never considered him relationship material before,
so this is his once in a never-gonna-happen-again chance to change her mind.

Now Jessa’s stuck between a rock and six-pack abs. She can’t get out of the predicament, but she can lay
down some ground rules. Because seriously, if she and Chase sign a contract to “fake-date” each other,
what could possibly go wrong?

Nothing, right?

Right?

Check out the entire series: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CKFG3MBL

These books are available as part of a Kindle Unlimited subscription!

Angela writes steamy, frisky, fun contemporary romance that always includes humor, heat, and lots of
snarky banter. Happily ever afters are a must!

When she’s not writing romance, she’s probably either reading in the “Bunny Estate” (aka his own
bedroom) with her bunny, Tag, glued to the TV watching everything from Hallmark to The Amazing
Race to John Wick, or going to the theater for a popcorn fix—er—to watch a movie. Oh, and let’s not
forget drinking way too much Diet Coke! (Yes, she knows she has a problem. Don’t judge!)

Angela shares her rural home with three short, furry children, Remi, Ruby, and Starsky, and her
husband, Dean, who is used to the dogs being mentioned first.

A Fun Vampire Romance On Audio!

Good Enough To Eat is a fun sapphic romance about a vampire and someone who may or may not be human. I enjoyed the story, it's on the shorter side so, you can finish it in two or three listenings. The audio reader was pleasant to listen to as well.

When I went to Goodreads to mark this book as read, I saw someone had left a one-star rating because they thought the set-up for the story was ridiculous. I thought that was kind of funny because this is a paranormal romance. Most of the set-ups are pretty out there!

If you are looking for some fun escapist listening, this may fit the bill!

PS It has spice!

Just a few more days until the holiday weekend here in the States. I am looking forward to a few days off school! This year is demanding!

The Sunday Post --False Fall

A big change in the weather arrived last night, because of Hurricaine Erin, the jetstream was pulled down and we are enjoying some nice temperate weather. It's delightful to have some low-humidity days where you can open the windows and enjoy fresh air!

I'm looking forward to fall so much that the book I am drafting accidentally changed from being a Christmas-themed book to being a fall book that ends Christmas Eve.  This week, the one and only PSL will be back. Do you like pumpkin spice lattes?  My local independent coffee shop has its own version that uses fresh pumpkin puree and contains much less sugar.

Reading wise, I've been slacking! I did finish an audiobook. I joined TikTok and I'm trying to figure out what types of posts work and how to edit stuff. I'm only allowing myself less than an hour a day to work on it. I did find a good recipe and made it yesterday!

Nom nom nom. It's 1 can chickpeas, 1 can black beans, 8oz mozarella pearls, 2 chopped cucumbers, 10 chopped cherry tomatoes, pickled banana peppers, couple tbsps of fresh basil, and then salad dressing made with olive oil, wine vinegar, dijon mustard, and a little honey.

I also went to a book signing with Brigid Kemmerer, who wrote the book (which I haven't read yet) "Warrior Princess Assassin"

How was your week?  This was our first full week of school--174 days left til next summer break!

Treat Yourself To Superhero Romance!

I love when authors write stories that are a bit of a genre mash-up. As someone who has seen and enjoyed many a Marvel Movie,  Kelly Farmer's Vector City Super's series is a perfect fit!

Secret Spark (Vector City Supers Book 1:

Sadie thinks her hot new neighbor is one of Vector City’s Superheroes, only Joan’s a fiery Supervillian named Spark who’s hot in more ways than one.

FANNING THE FLAMES (Vector City Supers Book 2):

As their relationship grows, Joan and Sadie face new Villains, old Superheroes, running a food truck, and revenge. Just another day in Vector City.

Do You Read Book Blurbs?

It's very rare for me to read book blurbs, I usually read books other people recommend. I judge a book by the cover more than the blurbs.

What about you? Do you read blurbs?

I started reading more blurbs recently because I decided to update the blurb on the back of my first book. I found out that it's better not to give too many plot details because then a potential reader might decide not to read the book because they think they already know the story. Like when you see a movie trailer and at then end of it, you feel like you just saw all the best parts of the movie.

Would you like to see my new blurb? Here it is!

She survived cancer. He’s consumed with running his restaurant.

Nicole is determined to take care of herself after her cancer treatments are complete. She’s done risking her peace of mind to find love. But when she meets a handsome chef with the cutest dimples she’s ever seen, she questions if playing it safe is working.

Sean is the optimistic owner of Jesse's Pub. The restaurant is a hit and a way for him to distance himself from his family. Then he meets a woman who ignores his attempts at flirtation, and he can't get her out of his mind. In the aftermath of a disastrous date, he must get creative with his approach.

Nicole tells herself Sean is different, but she struggles to get past the scars of her past. Just when Sean thinks she is ready to move on from the past, she ghosts him.

Can Sean convince Nicole to open her heart and trust him in return?

If you love small-town romance where the hero falls first, she’s the grumpy one, and there’s just the right amount of spice, pick up
No Gouda Without You today!

What do you think?

There is a Kong Dog in the food court that you have to walk past to go to the movies by us. So after we saw Fantastic Four I had to try a Korean-style corndog. This is a chicken sausage corn dog covered with cinnamon sugar. It was delicious!

Back to school means lots of walking and standing for me. If there is school, I'm getting ten thousand steps before it's time for dismissal. This week was busier than I expected--my mistake! I got fewer words done on the draft of my next book during the week, so I'm focusing on catching up and hitting my goal over the weekend.

We watched the last episode of "Smoke" on Apple TV. It was very good. Dark, but very good storytelling. I also finished the "Resident Playbook" on Netflix. I highly recommend it! A new favorite Kdrama

It's still very hot here. I almost melted on the playground on Friday. I don't want to wish away the remainder of summer but it would be nice if the heat or the humidity could be turned down a little.

I'm currently reading these two books. If I reach my word goal tomorrow, I'm going to get "The Inheritance" by Ilona Andrews. --talk about awesome motivation!

How about you? Read or watching anything good? Did you do anything fun?

What Everyone Is Saying About This Summer

School is back in session so all the staff has been catching up. What is everyone saying when asked about their summers?

1. Too short! (always)

2. Too hot! (we've had a ton of days that were over ninety degrees Fahrenheit AKA around thirty-two Celsius.)

Here is the weather looking all innocent when in fact it's not just hot, it's also super humid!

I recently read this middle-grade book Reunited by Colleen Berquist It's the second book in a trilogy about a thirteen year-old-girl that finds out her family isn't who she thinks. There's a real lack of books for kids that aren't little anymore and who are too young for most YA books. This book is one working to fill the gap.

Reunited is in Kindle Unlimited and also available as a Kindle book as well as a paperback.

So how was your summer?

Welcome Back! School Has Resumed!

Well, my wish for a few more weeks of summer break did not magically come true, so here it is--time to go back to school! We have a bunch of new teachers at my school this year, but I am paired with two teachers who have lots of experience. This is great because it will be my first year in a kindergarten classroom.

I saw the funniest book online. If you are wondering what sorts of books little boys like, this is it.

Perfect for the Halloween season!

I bought a couple of shirts to wear this school year. The first one I'll wear throughout December, and the second is a reminder to myself as well. I got them via a website called Teachergram

What I'm reading with my ears right now...
I borrowed this from my public library via hoopla!

A Fun Contemporary Romance! And A Group I Joined To Lurk

If you are looking for a steamy contemporary romance with the secret rich guy trope and a scrappy heroine with plenty of baked goods talk. Check out this book. Audrey Lynden has a very distict writers voice. I found it engaging! One small detail from the book that I loved was that the main male character's secret nickname was Mr. Juicy Fruit.
Lemon Tart is available on Amazon and you can find all of her books on her website:
https://audreylynden.com

This is a group on Facebook where, as the name suggests, people post things that happen and how they don't care. As far as I can tell so far, it's women who are posting. It's interesting to see people freeing themselves from their own and other's expectations.
