Deadlocked By Charlaine Harris Review and Giveaway

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12)Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I imagine since this is book 12 in the series, that if you are reading my review you have an interest in the series. Furthermore, assuming you are up to speed on Sookie Stackhouse and the people of Bon Temps, let me share some non-spoilery review notes.

1. The synopsis of the book listed above is really not reflective of the actual book. Once again, I wonder if the people who are responsible for the book jacket/summary actually read the books they summarize.

2. I was extremely happy that Sookie's Can-Do spirit returned. I didn't enjoy Dead Recokoning because Sookie was so depressed.

3. I officially don't like the who will be Sookie's HEA mystery. Too much angst for me. I'd rather have the mystery minus the romance drama.

4. Lastly, I missed Eric and Pam. There is a large empty void in the book .  Not enough word count devoted to my favorite vampires and in my opinion, in the book and too many scenes with recently introduced humans.

Perhaps the reason for number 4. is foreshadowing that Sookie will work to be an 'average' bar owner and eschew the supernatural world in Charlaine's  final installment Dead Ever After?

Note: It's important to mention that I am a hardcore fan of the series. I read the fan fiction, I watch that awful HBO True Blood, I hang out at The Sookierverse Blog.

Now that I am done with the book, I want to give it away!  Comment below on your favorite Sookie Stackhouse Novel AKA Southern Vampire Mysteries Books and one winner will be chosen from the comments to get my hardback copy!

Three quick things:
1. Be sure to put your email with your comment.
2. I'm mailing it Parcel Post.
3. Be a pal and follow my blog!

This is the copy I am giving away, see it has a prettier cover than the version pictured above!

Spring break day 2

Well here I am at PGN, mini golf, arcade & indoor playground. I tried, obviously unsucessfully, to get out of having to come here.

Maybe you are thinking, Victoria don't you enjoy spending time with your children? Of course I do! Well mostly I do. The begging for tokens and French fries I can do without---and the piercing screams of preschoolers not wanting to leave.

It's still too cold outside to believe that Spring is here. I heard the weatherman say no above average temps are in our future for at least the next two weeks. Then I threw out the radio. No not really---did turn it off though.

Just told Patrick I am going to keep track of how many times he tells me he is hungry or asks why we can't get food from here and when he gets to 10 we are leaving. So far the count is 4.

Yesterday I was on thesookieverse.com and saw that Charlaine Harris author of the books I was talking about yesterday, is doing a book tour and found she is coming to Chicagoland. Yippee!!! I'm going to get the new book Dead Reckoning signed! Also saw there is an excerpt of the new book (release date 5/3/11) on the publishers website (penguin) It's the whole chapter 3. Oooo ahhh love it!

Here is Patrick now...I'm ready for whining about nachos...

Stuff I like lately

Looking for a good book? Currently I am all about any and everything by Charlaine Harris. It's October, what can beat a good action adventure w/a telepathic Heroine w/a shape shifting boss, who is torn btwn a weretiger and a couple of handsome vampires. I love a good vampire story! The author looks like a sweet southern woman somewhere in her 50s, but she can write some wild stories!

I got the best. mascara. ever. Really it makes you look like you have lashes for miles and doesn't involves getting pharmaceuticals! (ie Latisse) It's Avon's Super Curlacious Mascara. I don't think I paid but like maybe $6 and it rocks!

Now in the recipe department today I made an easy appetizer because I had some Pillsbury reduced fat crescent rolls on hand:

Sweet Bell Pepper and Turkey Bacon Bites
1 pkg reduced fat crescent rolls
1 tbsp Tastefully Simple Sweet Bell Pepper Dip
2 tbsp minced green onion
4 slices turkey bacon crumbled
8oz (ie 1 block) reduced fat cream cheese

Preheat over to 375 degrees. Mix all ingredients cept the crescent rolls together. Open up the crescent rolls and pinch the triangles together to make 4 rectangles. Then take 1/4 of the cheese mix and spread it on each of the 4 rectangles. Roll up a rectangle, then slice into 8 pieces and place cut side up on a baking sheet. Repeat for a total of 32 bites. Bake for 12-15 minutes, cool and serve.

Oh and the other stuff I like lately is the vanity sizing on Sonoma Corduroy pants sold by Kohls, of which I bought a pair of size 6 pants yesterday. Seriously. size 6. haha! I don't wear a 6. But hey I'll take it, it's good for the ego!! Only in the land of Sonoma!
